Whitby Abbey: A Geology Sketch Adventure

Here’s an actual geology exercise with drawing and sightseeing!

Whenever I visit Whitby Abbey (with my friends Mel and Karen, we’re National Trust members) I have the sketchbook in my pocket and try to do at least a couple ‘which way up?’ drawings. Drawing this by hand helps me see the layering because as I draw in areas I can see what needs to be erased to create the different edges between areas. It helps me work out if the stones have been put in the wall in their original orientation (as the sediment was deposited), sideways or upside-down.
